Registration is compulsory for documents of immovable property as per the Registration Act, 1908 and each buyer has to pay registration charges and stamp duty for the same. An unregistered sale deed is not admissible in courts. While stamp duty varies from state to state, property registration typically costs 1% of the transaction value.
Also, women buyers enjoy discounts in stamp duty across states, no rebate is provided in case of registration charges.
